Madness and May-Hem, Spooky Empire Style

Last weekend we attended Spooky Empire’s May-Hem at the Wyndam in Orlando. May-Hem was very similar to Spooky Empire’s Ultimate Halloween Weekend in October, except it was billed as not being completely horror-centric. I honestly couldn’t tell much difference. It was like the October event, just a bit smaller with less panels. Both events are a lot of fun, and it’s nice to have something like this in May because October is such a crazy time of year for any costume shop!

We assembled the Firefly clan from House of 1000 Corpses: Baby Firefly, Dr. Satan, Mary, Capt. Spaulding and Mama Firefly

and headed to check out the scene inside. There was definately a smaller amount of people dressed up for this one. I’m pretty sure some of the outfits that looked liked costumes were actually every-day wear for some of the attendees. Most people recognized our costumes, but from some of the comments I’m pretty sure several of the vendors just thought I was dressed normally. My cowboy hat was very popular. Next time we do this, we need to be dirtier and bloodier.

The vendor/tattoo room had a lot of unique stuff. We didn’t get any tattoos, but we did get a few souvenirs. I got a nifty latex necklace from Kurt at ArtWithLatex.com and a Young Ones t-shirt. Brema picked up a Hello Zombie t-shirt and adopted a baby boy Vamplet complete with blood bottle.

The “famous people” room was a lot of fun and everyone we met was really nice and happy to take a photo.  We all got a pic with Anthony Michael Hall and he hung out later by the pool, though I was already gone by then. After getting up early to travel to Orlando, getting ready and hanging out all day, I was sleepy after dinner and did not last very long. I was in bed by the time the pool party was in full swing. Next time, I think I’ll plan to get started later so I can enjoy the nighttime celebration, which I’ve heard is full of even more mayhem….
